Pacific Carbon has been in existence for 9 years and benefits from significant experience and technological advances pioneered in South Africa.
Founded with the commission of 1 Coking Plant, Pacific Carbon has subsequently developed to successfully operating 4 Plants producing a 130 000 tonnes annually with a further 2 plants currently under construction for start up in December 2009. The company utilises rich Bituminous coal supplied from the Western Coalfield in New South Wales, producing high quality Retort Coke and a small quantity of Bituminous Tar.

Pacific Carbons Coke Plant and Stockpiles

Pacific Carbon has a design of which it is justly proud, achieved through industrial ecology principles including:

the reuse of liberated coal volatiles to maintain the retort process
downstream use of liberated tar
downstream use of the product
the use and reuse of water reticulation

all of which meet highly stringent pollution standards. In this way it minimises demand on other energy sources and it cleans the emissions from the stacks.

Being located on Kooragang Island, Newcastle, Australia, there are high levels of synergy with other bulk coal operations that reinforce the objective of Newcastle's Development Control Plan No. 41. The company adds to port related enterprises and to the port's role in export by container as well as bulk cargo.

The company is in the process of expanding its market and selling its products worldwide.
